Two different questions: which circumvention tool works well in mainland China, and whether a given tool's own website can be reached from there. Circumvention Central answers the first; this site answers the second.
Which tool is fastest right now
Circumvention Central is GreatFire's ranking of VPNs and other circumvention tools, scored on download speed, latency and connection stability as measured by users inside mainland China — and in Russia, Iran and elsewhere. You can filter by operating system, and test your own connection to add to it.
What this site measures instead
We test whether a tool's website is reachable from mainland China. That decides whether you can open the download page, sign up or renew from inside the country — often the hardest step, because a provider's website is usually blocked long before its protocol is.
A blocked website does not mean the tool itself fails, and a reachable one is no promise that it works: we measure the site, not the tunnel.
Looking up any VPN or proxy
- Type its domain into the search box — mullvad.net, psiphon.ca, whichever provider you are checking.
- Or go straight to the address. The plain-http page and the https page are tested separately and can differ:
