Censorship of HTTPS in China
The S in HTTPS stands for Secure. Any URL that starts with HTTPS:// is using a secure, encrypted connection to connect to the web server. That means that the Great Firewall of China cannot block traffic based on keywords in the request. It can, however, still block websites using DNS poisoning and/or IP blocking. Users in China accessing the HTTPS versions of for example Google (https://www.google.com.hk) or Wikipedia (https://zh.wikipedia.org) can lookup any keywords including thousands that are otherwise blocked.

David: Are you consistently unable to access http://www.amazon.com without a VPN? We've seen temporary glitches in access to Amazon from China before, but no permanent block. What kind of Internet connection are you on?
Too many stupid people in China push the government to block some site. To block freegate is very simple and easy, but the government doesn't block it. That is just a sample. So, you may need a free internet, you can use some tool, but for those stupid people, blocking can help them, without being confused or misleaded

There is NOTHING on my site in any way that would be a reason for any 'reasonable' person / ISP / country / government, to block it!!!!! Unless looking at a picture of a bird is somehow so wrong and against China in some way!!!

Monte Taylor you may consider switching to another hosting, which means getting your server's IP and ISP changed. Tested traceroute from china and cannot get to international nodes.
